Daytime View at Makati Central Business District

Makati is the largest Central Business District for Metro Manila (there are 7 in the metro). Almost 500k people reside in an area just over 10 sq. miles in size, with commuters swelling the daytime population to over 1 million.

The country’s first airport was located at what is now the center of Makati; the commercial development spawned by the airport eventually overtook the airport itself. The two runways and the tarmac that belonged to the airport now comprise the 3 major boulevards in Makati (Roxas, Makati, and Ayala). The airport passenger terminal and tower were saved and converted into a museum, an anachronism in the midst of office buildings, shopping centers, condos and hotels.

Makati has a unique visual vibe in the metro (and Pacific Asia for that matter), with less of the pre-war Spanish/Chinese influences found elsewhere (Binondo, Intramuros), and a more American feel (imagine Honolulu on steroids).

The Makati Central Business District, in Makati City, Philippines, is the commercial capital of the Philippines. On weekdays/regular work days, the Makati Central Business District is probably one of the busiest places in the country. You’ll find all sorts of businesses here and they are really huge companies such as banks, multinational companies, telecom companies, and more.

While you’re in the Makati Central Business District, you’ll feel that you are really in a working environment. You’ll see lots of bustling people walking around from dawn till dusk. Just try to avoid driving during rush hour unless you have no other choice. Traffic is usually terrible and at a snails pace. But parking won’t be much of a problem since there are lots of parking spaces. But compared to the parking space versus area, the ratio is much bigger in the Ortigas Commercial Center. But nevertheless, there are probably a lot more people in the Makati Business District.

Makati City and the Makati Central Business District are located near the south side of Metro Manila. It’s really easy to go to. Just traverse along Epifanio Delos Santos Avenue (EDSA, main thoroughfare in the metro) and you’ll see the main roads of the Makati Central Business District such as Ayala Avenue and Buendia Avenue. Just don’t get too confused with the flyovers, tunnels and winding intersections. There are lots of ways to get there as well using public transportation. You can use public buses, the metro rail transit, taxis and jeepneys (the latter can’t be found in EDSA though).

Aside from office buildings, there are lots of places where you can relax and have fun. There are big malls such as SM Makati, Glorietta, The Landmark, and Greenbelt. There are tons of places where you can eat, play, and simply just have fun. You can even stroll to all these malls since they are interconnected. There are other places such as Little Tokyo and Makati Cinema Square.

Makati City is blossoming as a thriving affluent, cosmopolitan business centre in the heart of Manila where Ayala Avenue meets the Central Business District. This is where many of the country’s tallest skyscrapers are located. The Makati skyline is one of the most impressive sights in Metro Manila. The city also has many of the country’s five-star hotels. Makati is noted for its highly cosmopolitan culture, also being a major cultural and entertainment hub in Metro Manila. Many expatriates live and work in the city. Makati is also home to many first-class shopping malls, which are located at Ayala Center and Rockwell Center.
